Online safety tips

Before you meet anyone in person, there are important steps to take to protect yourself online.

Verify before trusting

Look for the verified badge on profiles. Verified members have confirmed their identity via our ID check system.

Protect personal info

Don't share your home address, workplace, phone number, or financial details until you fully trust someone.

Video chat first

Use our in-app video call feature to see who you're really talking to before agreeing to meet.

Never send money

Anyone asking for money, gift cards, or financial help is almost certainly running a scam. Report them immediately.

Protecting your profile

Your feelDLove profile is visible to other members. Here's how to control what information you share.
  • Don't include your surname, email address, or phone number in your bio.
  • Avoid photos that reveal your home, workplace, school, or frequent locations.
  • Use the location privacy setting to show only your city, not your exact position.
  • Review your linked social media accounts — only connect ones you're comfortable sharing.

Meeting in person safely

When you're ready to take things offline, these steps help keep you safe:

  • Always meet for the first time in a public place — a café, restaurant, or busy park.
  • Tell a trusted friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back.
  • Arrange your own transport — don't accept a lift from someone you've only just met.
  • Keep your phone fully charged and have emergency contacts ready.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, it probably is. Leave.
  • Don't leave your drink unattended or accept drinks from strangers.
Use our Share My Date feature (in the app) to automatically send your date location and check-in reminders to a trusted contact.

Red flags to watch for

Some behaviours are common warning signs. If you notice any of these, trust your gut and report the user:

  • They refuse to video call or always have excuses why they can't.
  • Their profile photos look too professional, inconsistent, or like a model shoot.
  • They claim to live nearby but are always 'abroad for work'.
  • They ask for money, cryptocurrency, or gift cards — for any reason.
  • They become angry, aggressive, or controlling if you set a boundary.
  • They pressure you to move the conversation off the app immediately.
  • Their story changes or doesn't quite add up.
Romance scams are real. If someone you've never met is professing deep love early on and asking for financial help, stop all contact and report them to us and to Action Fraud (UK: 0300 123 2040).
